Harvey Gains FedRAMP Class D Status for Federal Legal AI

Harvey has announced that its legal AI platform is now FedRAMP Class D certified, a milestone the company says opens its tools to US federal agencies, federal contractors and partners, international governments and other organizations that require the highest security standards.

Federal legal teams handle advisory, litigation and enforcement work that often involves sensitive information. Harvey says those teams can now use the platform for procurement and contracting, initial document reviews and cross-agency collaboration, with the aim of cutting time spent on routine tasks so attorneys can focus on legal analysis and advice.

Within the certified environment, agency attorneys can work through complex case records, develop litigation arguments, interpret regulations and review contracts and procurement documents. The certification is delivered through Knox Systems’ FedRAMP Class D certified cloud environment, which the company says gives each customer a dedicated, single-tenant setup rather than shared compute or storage.

Harvey’s chief executive, Winston Weinberg, said federal teams can now access the same legal AI used by a large share of major law firms and several of the largest companies in the US, and that the company is proud to bring the technology to more attorneys working in public service.

The company says the certification builds on an existing compliance posture that includes SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, ISO 27701 and ISO 42001, along with privacy rules including GDPR and CCPA. It also says customer material is not used to train underlying models.

For government buyers, the significance is less about any single feature than about clearance: a legal AI tool that can operate inside strict federal security boundaries. Readers weighing legal AI options can compare Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini, or see our best AI tools for lawyers in 2026.
