Northbeam Raises $85M Series B to Expand AI Inference Cloud

Northbeam Systems, a three-year-old startup selling dedicated AI inference capacity, said Thursday it has raised $85 million in a Series B round led by Meridian Ventures, with participation from existing backers.

The company operates GPU clusters in four regions and rents reserved inference capacity to software firms that want predictable latency without managing their own hardware. It says revenue tripled over the past twelve months as customers shifted batch workloads off general-purpose clouds.

The new funding will go toward two additional data-center builds planned for early next year and a doubling of headcount from 120 to roughly 240 employees. Northbeam also plans to add long-context serving and speculative decoding across its fleet, features it says cut per-token costs by about 30 percent in early tests.

The company did not disclose its valuation. Inference infrastructure has become one of the hottest segments in AI venture funding as model usage grows faster than most enterprises can provision for in-house.

Northbeam was founded in 2023 by engineers who previously built networking software at a large cloud provider.
