Anthropic has filed the paperwork for one of the most anticipated stock market debuts in years, taking a formal step toward an initial public offering under the ticker symbol ANT.
The Claude maker filed a public version of its registration statement, known as a Form S-1, with the US Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday. The prospectus did not disclose how many shares the company plans to offer or at what price range, but reports have put the potential valuation at between $1.5 trillion and $2 trillion.
That would place Anthropic alongside SpaceX, which listed in June at a valuation of around $1.8 trillion. Reports suggest the offering could take place as soon as November.
Anthropic was founded just five years ago by a group of former OpenAI researchers led by chief executive Dario Amodei. Its Claude models now rank among the most widely used AI assistants, competing directly with ChatGPT and Gemini, a rivalry tracked in our ChatGPT vs Claude comparison.
The filing also flags risks, including the possibility that AI models develop faster than safety work can keep pace, and heightened political scrutiny of the company’s policy positions. Anthropic has clashed with the Pentagon this year over military uses of its models and has sued the department in two federal courts after being designated a supply chain risk.
The debut would test investor appetite for AI at a moment of sharp swings in AI-related stocks, as markets weigh huge infrastructure spending against questions about profitability.
