Axon Body 5: AI Camera With 25x More Power

Axon has unveiled Body 5, its newest body-worn camera, built to bring real-time artificial intelligence directly to officers in the field. Announced on October 24, 2026, the camera delivers 25 times the AI processing power of earlier-generation Axon cameras, alongside improved video, connectivity, audio, and 20 percent longer battery life.

For the first time, Axon is offering two versions of its flagship camera. The standard Body 5 focuses on capturing clearer evidence, including better low-light performance, while the Body 5 Pro adds a near-focus camera that can scan a driver license to check status and search for wants or warrants in seconds, without a trip back to the patrol vehicle. The Pro also adds four front-facing speakers so real-time translations carry over traffic and crowd noise, plus extra memory to run several AI tools at once.

Body 5 also debuts Axon Guardian, a set of real-time AI safety features. Escalation Detection can flag potential conflicts during a recording and alert a human reviewer through Axon Fusus, while an Approach Alert warns an officer if the door of a stopped vehicle opens. Axon stresses that Guardian alerts go to a human for review, keeping people in control of decisions in the field.

The launch marks a shift for body cameras, from devices that mainly record incidents to tools that assist during them. It builds on Axon existing AI portfolio, including Draft One, which turns body-camera audio into report drafts, and Axon Assistant, which offers voice-based information access and translation. Tools such as Notta and Deepgram show how far speech transcription and voice AI have come, and Axon is now pushing those capabilities onto the camera itself. General availability dates for Body 5 and Guardian have not been announced yet.
