Bill Gross Launches Idealab.ai With 1.2M Business Ideas

Serial entrepreneur Bill Gross, the founder of Idealab and the force behind more than 175 companies, has launched Idealab.ai — a platform that puts his idea-generation methodology into an AI-powered system anyone can browse. At public launch, the site makes more than 1.2 million business ideas searchable and freely available, complete with idea briefs that visitors can filter, save, and carry forward into the platform’s “Labs” tools.

The framing is deliberately counter to the dominant AI narrative. Rather than positioning AI as a job destroyer, Gross pitches Idealab.ai as an entrepreneurship engine: lowering the barriers to starting companies by giving away ideas rooted in real-world problems, then providing AI assistance to test and develop them. Later versions of the platform are expected to add funding applications and collaborator matching.

The long-term ambition is audacious — the company talks about catalyzing the creation of 1,000,000 new businesses and 100,000,000 jobs — but the immediate utility is more grounded: a structured, searchable library of problems and business concepts, something founders usually assemble from scratch.

For entrepreneurs, tools like ChatGPT and Claude are already common sparring partners for business planning; Idealab.ai effectively supplies the raw material — vetted problems worth solving — that those assistants then help shape into plans. Our Perplexity vs ChatGPT comparison breaks down two of the most popular AI research companions.
