Stablecoin giant Tether is betting that the next big customer for digital dollars won’t be a person at all. The company has participated in a seed extension round for AIsa, an AI infrastructure startup building payment and access systems for autonomous software agents. The round takes AIsa’s cumulative fundraising above $9 million.
AIsa is developing tools that let autonomous AI applications discover computing resources, access paid APIs, and make authorized payments within defined limits. The idea: as agents built on platforms like ChatGPT and Claude move from generating text to taking real actions online, they will need a way to buy services for themselves. An agent running a large research project, for example, might need to purchase temporary computing capacity or access a specialist data feed, and stablecoins could move those small payments quickly across borders.
Crucially, AIsa’s model also includes permission controls designed to keep systems from spending beyond their assigned budgets, a safeguard that matters as agent autonomy grows. Still, autonomous commerce remains an early market, and infrastructure announcements should not be mistaken for evidence that millions of agents are already transacting on their own.
The investment fits Tether’s pattern of deploying capital beyond its core USDT business, and signals how stablecoin companies see their role in a future where some financial transactions are initiated by software rather than people.
